Crocheting in the round can be fun, and can open up a whole world of project possibilities, but it can be intimidating for new crocheters. With this hat pattern, you don’t need to worry about connecting the rounds, you’ll be working a spiral, in the round, with no joining.

This pattern is written for an average woman’s head circumference of 22”- 23″/8.5” -9” tall. Other sizes are listed on the page.
I recommend reading through the pattern and doing a gauge swatch before starting.
Place a stitch marker at the beginning of each round to keep track if needed. It’s pretty easy to keep track of your rounds with this stitch if you choose not to use one.
You will not be making a ch 1 at the end of each row.
When making the ch 1 for each sc3tog, make sure you’re not making that ch st too tight. If you do, you will have a hard time getting the hook in that ch sp when you crochet around.
This hat pattern can be also made with a brim of rows of front double crochet posts and back double crochet posts,followed by a regular row of sc3tog clusters.

Crochet Hat Pattern for teen/small adult/woman 22″-23″/8.5″
Rnd 1: ch 70, join with a sl st in the first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 2: sc in each chain around, join with a sl st with the fist sc st. (70)
Rnd 3: : Pick up a loop in the first sc st of the 1st row, you now have 2 loops on your hook. Pickup a loop in the next 2 sts, you now have 4 loops on your hook, yo, and pull through all 4 loopson the hook. *Ch 1 (1st sc3tog cluster), pick up a loop in the same sp as the last st, pick up a loopin the next 2 sts, yo, draw through all 4 loops on your hook, rep from * around. You’ll end the last cluster in rnd 3 in the 1st st of the 1st sc3tog cluster made in rnd 3 (see the photos). (35 sc3togclusters, 70 sts)
Rnds 4-17: *Pick up a loop in the same sp as the last st, pick up a loop in the next 2 sts, yo,draw through all 4 loops on your hook, ch 1, rep from * around. (70)
Rnd18: sc2tog in the first 2 sts (Pick up a loop in the first st, you now have 2 loops on yourhook. Pick up a loop in the next st, you now have 3 loops on your hook, yo, and pull through all 3loops on the hook), sc2tog in the next 2 sts* rep until the end of the row. (35)
Rnd 19: sc2tog in the first 2 sts, sc2tog in the next 2 sts* rep until the end of the row. (18)
Rnd 20: : sc2tog in the first 2 sts, sc2tog in the next 2 sts* rep until the end of the row. (9)
Finish off leaving a long tail.
Finish: Flip the hat inside out to weave the tail in and out of every other stitch of the last row with a yarn needle. Pull the tail to close the hole. Secure the tail and any remainin gends with knots, and weave them all in.
Your beanie will measure approx. 8.5” -9” tall. If you would like more length, rep the pattern for as many rows as you like. Add a large yarn pom or faux fur pom pom for asuper cute look.
