These mittens are designed to fit a standard ladies size (7-8” hand circumference). The main mitten measures approximately 4” wide and 7.5” long, add 2” for the cuff. You can adjust the size also by going down 1 size of your crochet hook.

Crochet Stitches for these Mittens

The simple stitches in these crochet mittens pattern make it a perfect, beginner-friendly project. I think it would be an ideal pattern to start with for someone who is just learning how to crochet in the round. This pattern will work up quickly for beginners and advanced crocheters alike.

The pattern for this comfortable, crochet, mittens is simple to make because I only used the double crochet and single crochet stitches, which are basic crochet stitches which means these mittens will work up pretty fast! For the cuff I used front post stitches and back post stitches which are basicly double crochet stitches worked differently. You will find all the instructions you in this post.

Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc): Yarn over, insert your hook from front to back to front around the post of the next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull thru 2 loops on your hook, yarn over, pull thru remaining two loops on your hook.

Back Post Double Crochet (bpdc): Yarn over, insert your hook from back to front around the post of the next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull thru 2 loops on your hook, yarn over, pull thru remaining two loops on your hook.

DC2TOG (double crochet 2 together): is a really cool and easy decreasing stitch!
Basically, it takes 2 stitches and combines them into 1!

Yarn Over, insert hook through stitch to be worked. Yarn over, draw back through stitch, you now have 3 loops on your hook! Yarn over, draw back through first 2 loops only, yarn over, insert your hook into next stitch. Yarn over, draw back through stitch, there are now 4 loops on your hook! Yarn over, draw back through first 2 loops only. Yarn over, draw back through the last 3 loops on your hook. You have now finished a DC2TOG!

The Perfect Yarn for These Crochet Mittens

When deciding on which yarn to use, I chose one of my favorites, Lion Brand Woolspun. This yarn is soft, comfortable to work with, and comes in a variety of beautiful colors. So, I felt that it was a perfect choice. But you can use any bulky yarn you have.

Gauge

• Gauge is IMPORTANT!
• 12 stitches x 9 rows = 4”
• You will need to make sure you have 12 stitches for every 4 inches of the mitten for the correct fit.

Crochet Mittens Pattern Adult Size

The pattern for these mittens is identical for both, right and left hand. You will need to make two of them.

Start making a magic ring. Chain 1.

Round 1: work 6 sc stitches in the ring. Join round with a slip stich in the firs sc st. (6 sc sts)

Round 2: ch 1, work 2 sc st in each stitch around. Join with a sl st in the first sc st. (12 sc sts)

Round 3: ch 2, work 2 dc sts in the first sc of the previous round, then 1 dc st in the next st; [2 dc in the same st, 1 dc in the next st] ; repeat to the end of the round. Join with a slip stitch in the first dc st.(18 dc sts)

Round 4: ch 1, work 2 sc sts in the first st, 1sc st in the next two stitches, [ 2 sc sts in the same st, 1 sc st in the next two sts] repeat to the end of the round. Join with a sl st in the first sc st. (24 sc sts)

Round 5: ch 2, work 1 dc st in each stitch around. Join with a sl st in the first dc st. (24 dc sts)

Round 6: ch 1, work 1 sc st in each stitch around. Join with a sl st in the first sc st. (24 sc sts)

Round 7: ch 2, work 1 dc st in each stitch around. Join with a sl st in the first dc st. (24 dc sts)

Round 8: ch 1, work 1 sc st in each stitch around. Join with a sl st in the first sc st. (24 sc sts)

Round 9: ch 2, work 1 dc st in each stitch around. Join with a sl st in the first dc st. (24 dc sts)

Round 15: ch 2, dc 12 sts, (until you get to chain 8), work 1 dc st in each ch st, continue working 1 dc st in each st all around. Join with a sl st.

Round 16: ch 1, work 1 sc st in each stitch around. Join with a sl st .

Round 17: ch 2, work 1 dc in the next 3 sts, then work a dc2tog, [ 1 dc in the next 3 sts, dc2tog]; repeat to the end of the round. Join with a sl st.

Round 18: ch 1, work 1 sc st in each stitch around. Join with a sl st .

Round 19: ch 2, work 1 dc st in each stitch around. Join with a sl st in the first dc st.

Round 20: ch 2, work 1 FPdc, 1 BPdc around. Join with a sl st in the top of ch 2 from the beginning of the round.

Round 21-23 repeat round 20.

Thumb pattern for the crochet mittens

Round 1: Insert yarn in one of the corners, ch 1, sc in the same st and sc around. Join with a sl st .

Round 2: ch 2, work 1 dc st in each stitch around. Join with a sl st in the first dc st.

Round 3: ch 1 and sc around. Join with a sl st.

Round 4: ch 2, work [1 dc, 1 dc2tog,] continue to the end of the round.

Rounnd 5: ch 1, sc around. Fasten off and leave a 15″ long tail to close the end of the tumb. Weave the ends in.
