I just love how this animated crochet hat turned out, and I’m so happy to be sharing this easy free pattern with all of you. I’ve designed this pattern with beginners in mind, so if you’re new to making beanies, I think you’ll be surprised at how simple it is.

Eye buttons: make two pieces, following the instruction bellow:
Round 1: with white yarn work a magic ring, make 10 dc sts in the ring.
Round 2: change to black yarn color and work 2 DC sts in each stitch aroun. Join with a sl st, leaving a 5″ long tail to attach it to the eye patch.
Make sure the large part of the eye patches are facing down and the skinny/smaller side is pointing upward. With black yarn and needle, sew the eyes buttons to the smaller part of each eye patch. Sew on white button to each eye patch.

Magic ring, chain 2 and make a DC, HDC, 2 SC, HDC, DC, HDC, 2 SC, HDC and join to first DC. Pull tight and sew onto hat.Under the nose, stitch on mouth/smile with your tapestry needle and black yarn.

Make 2 with Black yarn
Round 1. ch 3, join with sl st. create a ring
Round 2. 10 sc into the ring, sl st.
Round 3. *2sc in the next st, *repeat to finish round (20sts.)
Round 4. *1 sc in the next st, 2sc in the next st, *repeat, sl st.
Round 5. *1 sc in the next 2 stitches, 2sc in the next st, *repeat, sl st.
Fold the circle in half, and sc the circle together to create a half circle. then sew the two half circles on top of the hat to create ears. Place the ears 2 inches apart on top of the hat.

Make 2, you can slip stitch onto the side of the hat with your white yarn, then work the following pattern for both ear flops:
Round 1. ch 2. dc in the next 11 dc stitches, turn. -11 sts

Chain 7, SC in second chain from hook and in next 5, make 3 SC in last chain. SC in each stitch along other side of chain, join, chain 2 (13 SC)
Round 2: 2 DC in first 3 stitches, HDC in next, SC in next, 2 SC in next 3, SC in next rest of stitches, join to top of first DC. Fasten off leaving long tail to sew onto hat.
Panda Eye Patches: #2
With black yarn
Chain 7, SC in second chain from hook and in next 5, make 3 SC in last chain. SC in each stitch along other side of chain, join, chain 1 (13 SC)
Round 2: SC in first 5 stitches, 2 SC in next 3 stitches, SC in next, HDC, 2 DC in last 3, join to first SC. Fasten off leaving long tail to sew onto hat.
Make sure the large part of the eye patches are facing down and the skinny/smaller side is pointing upward. With black yarn and needle, sew the white buttons eyes to the smaller part of each eye patch. the Sew on white button to each eye patch.
Crochet Nose Pattern
With black yarn
Magic ring, chain 2 and make a DC, HDC, 2 SC, HDC, DC, HDC, 2 SC, HDC and join to first DC. Pull tight and sew onto hat.Under the nose, stitch on mouth/smile with your tapestry needle and black yarn.
Crochet Ears Pattern
Make 2.
With black yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 8 HDC in ring, join to first HDC, chain 1 (8 HDC)
Round 2: 2 HDC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (16 HDC)
Round 3: 2 HDC in first stitch, HDC in next, repeat around (24 HDC)Fasten off leaving long tail to sew to sides of hatFor thicker ears that will hold up better (not flop over), make 4 and crochet two together.
Crochet Ear Flaps Pattern:
Ear flaps: make 2, you can slip stitch onto the side of the hat with your black or white yarn, then work the following pattern for both ear flops:
Row 1. ch 2. dc in the next 11 dc stitches, turn. -11 sts
Row 2. ch 2. dc2tog. dc in the next 6 stitches, dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn.
Row 3. ch 2. dc2tog, dc in the next 4 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st., turn.
Row 4. ch 2. dc2tog, dc in the next 2 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn.
Row 5. ch 2. dc2tog twice, dc in last st. cut yarn and pull through.
For the second ear flop, fold hat in half and sl st in dc directly across from the last dc from the other ear flap.
