Crochet Heart Pattern

The pattern I’m sharing with you today is my absolute favorite way to crochet a heart.

Here’s how to crochet a heart step by step.

Gauge: Gauge is not important to the success of this pattern. That said, I like to use a hook that is one size smaller than the hook called for on the yarn package. This way, the hearts are a bitter stiffer and look solid (without gaps between stitches).

Feel free to change the yarn and hook size to make your crochet hearts larger or smaller.

Crochet Stitches

Slip Stitch (sl st)

Slip Stitch (sl st): Insert hook into designated stitch, YO (yarn over) and pull back through the stitch and through the loop on the hook.

Single crochet stitch (sc)

Advertisements

Single crochet stitch (sc): Insert the hook into the next stitch, pull up a loop (you have now two loops on your hook), yarn over and draw the yarn through both loops on the hook.

Reverse single crochet (rev sc)

Reverse single crochet (rev sc):  it is just regular single crochet, worked in the stitch to the right, rather than to the left, of the previous stitch. The stitch feels a little awkward at first, especially in the first two steps, as you are working backwards. As you prctice it becomes easier. Insert the hook, from front to back, in the next stitch to the right. Yarn over (yo) and draw the yarn through the stitch. Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook. One reverse single crochet is complete.

Double crochet stitch (dc)

Double crochet stitch (dc):YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops, YO and pull through remaining two loops.

Triple crochet stitch (tc)

Triple crochet stitch (tc): YO the hook two times, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops, YO and pull through the next two loops again, YO and pull through remaining two loops.

Double triple crochet (dtr)

Double triple crochet (dtr): The US double triple crochet stitch is aso called double treble.

When you crochet a double treble crochet stitch, the first step is to yarn over the hook three times. This makes sense when you consider the other basic crochet stitches. For example, when you make a double crochet stitch, you yarn over once. When you make a treble crochet stitch, you yarn over twice. Since the double treble is the next tallest stitch, it’s only natural that you will yarn over three times.
